Norwell CDC, Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to addressing the critical issue of homelessness in the South Shore and greater Boston communities. Established in 2012, our Homeless Shelter Initiative Program has been a beacon of hope for homeless individuals and families, guiding them on a path from destitution to self-sufficiency. Our organization is driven by a profound commitment to making a difference in the lives of those who have fallen on hard times.
Our Origin and Evolution:
Our journey began nearly a decade ago when a group of compassionate individuals came together with a common purpose – to provide assistance and support to the homeless in our community. Recognizing the pressing need for comprehensive services, Norwell CDC, Inc. was formed as a non-profit entity, and the Homeless Shelter Initiative Program was established. Over the years, we have grown, adapted, and evolved in response to the changing needs of the homeless population we serve.
Our Core Values:
At the heart of Norwell CDC's mission are the core values that guide our every action:
Compassion: We believe that compassion is the driving force behind meaningful change. We approach each individual with empathy, respect, and a non-judgmental attitude, recognizing the inherent worth and dignity of every person.
Empowerment: We empower homeless individuals to take control of their lives. Our programs are designed to provide not just immediate relief but also the tools and resources needed for long-term self-sufficiency.
Community Collaboration: We understand that addressing homelessness is a collective effort. We work closely with other organizations, local governments, and community members to create a network of support for those in need.
Advocacy for Change: Beyond direct service provision, we advocate for policies and systemic changes that can break the cycle of homelessness and improve the lives of the most vulnerable among us.
The Homeless Shelter Initiative Program:
The cornerstone of our business is the Homeless Shelter Initiative Program. This comprehensive program is designed to address the multifaceted challenges faced by homeless individuals and families. It consists of various components, each tailored to meet specific needs:
Preparation for Hire Placement Program (PHP): This program focuses on job training, job placement, and case management for individuals who lack job skills and are unemployed. We provide support for program participants to reintegrate into or move within the job market, thereby fostering economic independence.
Street Outreach: Our dedicated outreach workers brave the streets to provide essential items like clothing, food, blankets, healthcare, and human contact to homeless individuals who may be struggling with mental illness and addiction. Trust is built with these men and women, and they are encouraged to connect with our services.
Parkview Wears: Our clothing exchange program not only provides clothing for adults but also caters to children's needs, offering age-appropriate clothing, books, and toys. For those enrolled in job-training programs, we offer interview-appropriate attire to boost their employment prospects.
Financial Literacy: Recognizing the importance of financial stability, we require all program participants to complete financial literacy training. This equips them with the knowledge and skills to create financial plans, manage their finances effectively, and become informed financial consumers.
Advocacy: We understand that long-term solutions require systemic change. Norwell CDC advocates for policies that address the root causes of homelessness and secure necessary funding to support our programs.
Veterans Services: Our specialized services connect homeless and low-income veterans with housing opportunities, employment, and community services, recognizing the unique challenges they face.
Our Commitment to Excellence:
Norwell CDC, Inc. is committed to excellence in all aspects of our work. We have assembled a team of dedicated professionals, volunteers, and partners passionate about our mission. We continuously strive to improve and expand our services to meet the diverse needs of the individuals and families we serve.
Community Engagement:
We believe that community involvement is vital to our success. We actively engage with local businesses, individuals, and organizations to foster a sense of responsibility and solidarity in addressing homelessness. By working together, we can achieve far more than we can alone.
We are proud to partner with a variety of local organizations to provide the best possible support to our clients. From food banks to healthcare providers, our partners help us extend our reach and impact in the community.
At Norwellcdc, our mission is to provide education and resources to support mental health and wellness in our community.
Over the past year, we have helped over 1,000 individuals in our community improve their mental health and well-being.
We love our customers, so feel free to visit during normal business hours.
